Sept. 24, 2008 - First Jam!

Hi folks,

Bill Giles and I are starting a Monday night jam at Paddy Reilly's starting this Monday, Sept. 29th at 7:30.

It will be held on the on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month (maybe even a 5th if we're lucky and energetic) and will be called "Bluegrass and Beyond".

The music will be all acoustic with equal emphasis on bluegrass, new and old-time country and pop / rock (hence the "beyond" part of the title). We're looking for musicians interested in trying different things on their bluegrass / old-time instruments other than the so-called "standards" (although we'll be playing those as well) - those of you who've heard Bill leading Canned Heat's "Goin' Up The Country" or Sarah's "Mobile Line Blues" at the slow jam get the idea. If you've never played the Stones or Beatles on a mandolin or banjo you're in for a treat. This will definitely not be a slow jam!

It would be helpful to bring some copies of lyrics or chords for others if you're straying too far from the fold (as we would encourage). Or, you could alternately buy everybody a round so they won't suspect a thing.

We intend to grow this jam in a natural (slow) fashion, no Ponkiesburg or Meet Up listings to compete with already established jams. However, we want the e-mail list to grow with interested people (including friends that may want only to drink and listen, or better yet, listen and drink), so feel free to invite people and give them my e-mail to get on the list.

If you didn't get this e-mail, give me a holler; otherwise, we'll see you @ Paddy's, next Monday, 7:30 - SW corner of 2nd and 29th.

And if the last sentence makes sense to you, you're smart enough to fit right in.
