Nov. 17,2008 Jam

Howdy,

Time to unstuff yourselves with another free-flowing B + B jam this Monday, Dec. 1st, 7:30 at Paddy Reilly's (SW corner of 2nd and 29th).

As yet another example of how New York City distorts and twists people's normal priorities, it has been pointed out to me that some of you will undoubtedly place family and friends above making music during the holidays. Therefore, against my better judgement, attendance will not be mandatory during the upcoming season.

On another note, what is it about the South and pickers? Do they pop out of the womb with fingers flying on imaginary instruments? Why can't for once, someone from let's say - North Carolina (no names... all right...  Jeff) - say he's no good and then not pick three times better than me?

It was fun watching Izzy regress from his current bluegrass persona, through "All Along The Watchtower" back to his legendary early rock days (or daze?). When I left late, he was providing all the riffs to "Hotel California" for Mike and looking for the wah-wah on his Martin.

By the way, WE'VE ARRIVED! Not only do we have a full - color poster but Led Zeppelin's got nothing on us... we've got a groupie. Famed old-time, roots enthusiast Laura (aka Aubora Laurealis) has chosen our jam to hang at. People this woman had a Gregarious Chant - not to mention an Ebony Hillbillies song - composed about her. I can't believe it, we're IT!

Next thing you know, Barry the bartender will recognize me each week instead of saying to my co-host: "Hey, Bill... where's that other guy?"

We also have one heck of a songwriter in AJ, who needs no "bailing out" when it comes to cool tunes - with songs ranging from government bailouts to bong hits (for Jesus, no less!) to bikinis on the beach. My wife Sarah keeps telling me to visualize the story to memorize lyrics - funny, I always remember his bikini song.

Finally, just to let you know, Bill and I are always there by 7:30, so don't be afraid to come early. It may be your only chance to catch Phyllis sing (she's gone by 8:30, that family and friends thing again... get a life).

Remember, feel free to invite musicians or listeners, or better yet, give them my e-mail - just don't tell 'em I'll buy 'em a beer (and if they're from the South, don't ask 'em if they can pick).

See you soon,
